At the risk of jinxing it, we’ve had a pretty mild winter. Little snowfall, some bitterly cold mornings and nights but not too many.
I’m a semi-regular participant in a bunch of Discord servers. Most of them have some kind of channel dedicated to photography, and I try to contribute from time to time. In one of the channels – the Friends of DeSoto Discord server – I’ve tried to spin up a weekly photo contest. I just launched it last week – I’m co-opting the Medium “Full Frame” channel’s “52 Frames challenge.” Rather than restart it, I just jumped directly into week 5.
The theme? Frozen. A few of my shots for the theme below.

All photos were captured on the banks of the Arkansas River, on the banks near Riverside Park in Salida. I like the last one quite a bit; I’ve set it up as a wallpaper on a couple of devices.
I’ve got a few additional projects cooking this spring. This morning I signed up for a day-long photo workshop during the Sandhill Crane festival in Monte Vista (though their signup mechanism was a bit odd; I don’t think I’ll know if I’ve got a spot for a few days). I’ve also signed up for a four-day wildflower workshop in Crested Butte later this summer.
Aside from that, I’ll be covering an International Women’s Day event at A-Church in early March, and I might have some work with members of the Salida Circus in spring.
